Dreamride builds bikes from a small selection of frames and a combination of carefully chosen components, proven over time to be strong, light, reliable, low maintenance, more-than-user-friendly, and SPECIFIC to an intended use. We enhance each build with unique cosmetic and practical touches, but the soul of any Dreamride bike is real world testing that is only evident over time. Our bikes perform and last because we ride professionally what we sell and sell professionally what we ride, and we ride on terrain that especially brutal to equipment.
FROM STUNTS TO RACING TO GUIDING ~ A BALANCE BETWEEN USE AND ABUSE
For many years Dreamride has put together equipment and stunt riders for independent motion pictures and videos. Just look at the mountain bike segment of the IMAX film EVEREST for a sample. Dreamride sponsored Nathan Toone to win a Utah State Downhill Championship. Stunts performed for pictures on both Dreamride BIKE SALES and BIKE VACATION websites were performed on Dreamride-built bikes. We know what wins, and what gets back in one piece. Best of all, we know a lot of stuff others don't. Racing is ADVERTISING, so racing, even winning, can be counterproductive to a small company that specializes in lower numbers and getting people AWAY from the crowds. We build great stunt and race bikes, but our main focus is state-of-the-art equipment for recreational riders of all skills and varying terrain. Racing is not testing and if it is, you are going to loose the race. Testing is done BEFORE racing. Training to race is a "practice in racing," not a "practice in mountain biking." As guides in Moab, Hawaii, Colorado and Arizona we avoid breakage on-the-job by riding smooth and within limits of equipment. It is not cool to get hurt while responsible for a group and a long way from civilization. Even the best part for the job can be broken. Practice makes perfect and perfection is unattainable. Your best competitive efforts last a few seasons at best. If you practice breaking stuff, you get better at it. This might get you a nickname, but does NOT win races. When you practice drinking Red Bull and going downhill as fast as you can, you teach your body that something is chasing you. No matter how you manage to control your heart rate, as you practice going all-out more and more chemical receptors in your brain are wired for ESCAPE AND FLIGHT--a fear reaction. At some point your body will be gone. At Dreamride, we practice rough trail riding with equipment that doesn't fail. We like to ride fast, smooth and efficient. We work to eliminate stress rather than putting it on a pedestal. We want to ride into our 80s, not burn out at 40. We want to gain strength and endurance that lasts into old age, not gain weight when we hit the wall due to a metabolism built on sugary energy drinks, caffiene and the fight or flight response. Our machines reflect a philosophy of longevity and joy in riding, not competition. We are here to help one another, not destroy one another.
MOAB SKILLS CLINICS
Our skills clinics are especially helpful in discovering what performs best in the real world of recreational mountain biking. Dreamride's SKILLS CLINICS have been on ABC's Good Morning America and in range of magazines from Sunset and Maxim. Clients benefit from small class size and individual attention. Riders are spotted by guides and teachers as they repeatedly perform manuevers beyond their range of confidence. Our bikes are always the best at technical terrain and the clinics demonstrate this immediately to anyone who is skeptical. Everyone eventually wants to ride a Dreamride-built bike as they understand the limits of their own equipment and see others on Dreamride bikes taking on obstacles that their equipment cannot handle.
OUR FLEET BIKES
The Dreamride Bike Shop is not to be confused with the "bike shops" on Main Street in Moab, renting and selling out-of-the-box bikes, energy bars, shoes and shorts. Dreamride's shop exists to support a Moab-specific fleet of rentals, demos and test bikes, as well as vacation clients' needs and fantasies. Our shop's focus is on creating up-to-date state-of-the-art equipment. The fleet bikes have a DAILY maintenance schedule in peak season. ANY part that appears damaged or no longer functions flawlessly is tossed on the spot. If a new part works better than an old one, we replace the old one long before it has worn out. If a part is rumored to break under extreme stress, we remove and replace it. If a product from a manufacturer builds a history of failure or the manufacturer doesn't stand behind their product, we stop carrying the part and divorce the manufacturer, even if we suffer financially. The safety and satisfaction of our client base is our primary function.
BIKES AND PARTS FROM IN-HOUSE MANUFACTURERS
We enjoy being a small company. We see large companies as massive inhuman dinosaurs, dying off, selling off, raping the planet on the way to extinction, focusing only on corporate profits. This is only part of the reason we build our own bikes and chose Moots, Ventana and Pegoretti as top level frames worthy of our builds. These manufacturers produce IN-HOUSE to the highest standards. These companies are more interested in quality than hype. This philosophy does not stop with frame choices. We seek out component manufacturers driven to make perfect parts. We stock up on the hard-to-gets and buy parts in bulk when we can, but we choose only the best from manufacturers like Chris King, Moots, Marzocchi, Fox, Shimano, SRAM and Magura. Being chosen by Dreamride is like getting an Oscar. Most of our manufacturers understand that Dreamride testing and support is the best kind of marketing and our refusal to compromise leads them to use us as a test facility. Our dismay at a really dangerous product gets threats from lawyers, so we must be doing something right.
TRADE SECRETS
Some parts lists are printed on the site for all to see, but if we don't want others to know about a new tweak, we don't publicize it. There are pleasant surprises in store for those who are more interested in value than price. Complete parts lists, along with descriptions of specific modifications, what we are doing to certain frames, parts and combos, and why, are behind passwords, available to those who purchase a Dreamride Special Edition (DSE) bike.
FORMULAS FOR YOUR PERSONAL NEEDS
ALL KITS FLEX FOR A SPECIFIC NEED, coinciding with the engineering of frames they adorn. Factors include suspension travel, the parts themselves, the terrain they must tackle, and rider weight and history. All of our kits satisfy basic needs for weight reduction, reliability and smooth function at good value for the dollar, but most mid-level builds done in the shop are for people who call and trust us to meet a price point. These are generally repeat clients who understand what we do and how we do it and trust us impeccably. The DSE kits are basically no-compromise. Price was not a consideration in the selection of DSE parts. That means we use the best part for the job whether it costs more or less. For example, XT parts sometimes look better than XTR on a particular bike, and when cosmetics is the overriding factor, we choose XT. The bottom line is that function and beauty must combine in these kits to produce a bike that we could call our own. That is how each of our bikes are built--as we would build our own bike, as close to perfect as possible. Each finished bike is carefully packaged in a hardshell case and shipped to your door.
