We cannot give you quads of iron and lungs the size of a whiskey barrel, but we CAN put a perfect machine under you. As do all Dreamride builds, the Distance Racer is custom built for you and your needs. The Moots Vamoots Compact is the top dog American road frame and deserves the best build possible. A Shimano Dura Ace, Campy Record or SRAM Red group is modified to include Zero Gravity brakes and our own custom (for your body and riding needs) lightweight Chris King/Mavic/DT wheelset. We also offer wheelset options from Zipp, Campagnolo, Shimano, Bontrager, Easton and Fulcrum. Ask about pricing differences and pros and cons during your order. We base the La Sal Mountain Road build on a Vamoots road or Psychlo-X cyclocross frameset with or without YBB rear suspension. We can customize frame geometry and frame detailing for special fit or special use. The La Sal Mountain LOOP Road group is a tad retro and somewhat flexible, designed for the self-supported rider--someone who needs to be self-sufficient on the bike.
This build was originally inspired by Moab's horrible chip seal, cracked and pot-holed, super-steep or boring flat, stupid twisty or arrow-straight, desert hot or arctic cold, remote backroads, and the temptation of off-road spurs. The "Loop" is primarily for difficult road conditions and enjoying the scenery without becoming part of it, but because we are long-time off-roaders, we offer the option to fudge this rugged road build a bit into a variety of uses--trail/commuter/cyclocross race bike. For 2008 the LOOP's front end features Nitto Mustache bars and Dura Ace barcon shifters, while we still offer options for Ritchey BioMax drops with Paul in-line brake levers or a variety of flat bar systems. There is always creative use of gel and bar tape to make the hands comfy. The stock kit includes a custom Moots ti stem and seatpost (opt for FSA at reduced price), Dreamride-built wheels with Chris King hubs (road classic or cyclocross) and Mavic Open Pro or A719 rims. We offer options for full Shimano Dura Ace or Campy Record (or Ultegra for less money) drivetrain components. An FSA Carbon MEGA-EXO double or triple crankset in compact or standard, or an FSA cross crank, is mated to a Conex Wipperman chain (substitute XTR or Dura Ace for a price savings). We use Zero Gravity (road) or Paul (cyclocross) brakes. Ultegra or FSA front derailleur (or Dura Ace for additional cost). A Selle Italia Prolink Light Gel Flow or Brooks Swallow ti-railed saddle with matching leather or natural cork bar tape are saddle choices. The build produces a classic looking, speedy, momentum-building road bike that treats your body with respect and courtesy. It's about going faster, safer, efficiently and more reliably in comfort and style. If you live in an urban environment, this bike is going to be faster than your car. The streets and backroads of San Francisco and Marin would be a perfect place for this bike to live. Or DC or Seattle. Weight of a 56cm bike is from 18.5 pounds with pedals. The LOOP can have mustache with Shimano Dura Ace barcons and derailleurs or road drop bars with Paul in-line levers. We can build them with Moots ti flat bars and SRAM twist shifters or complete Campy flat bar shifters and levers. We have reasons to recommend any one of these set ups for the right person. It is about YOUR specific needs for a comfortable bike that can be strictly for rough roads, or road and trail.
